Twice a year the town of Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast of England is inundated, not just by Goths, but all sorts of people who love to dress up in amazing costumes. It is an ideal opportunity for transgendered persons to dress as they wish and be accepted by all: the goths, the locals, and all the visitors who come to witness the spectacle. Everyone is so friendly. Martine has organised a Rose's group for the Spring Goth Weekends every April since 2011.
Rose's@WGW provisional* dates: Thursday 25th- Monday 29th April (4 nights) 2019
*Please note the dates for this event will not be known until the end of October.
See my blog here for my reasons for suggesting these dates.
If you are interested, please register ASAP as there is always a huge demand for accommodation during the WGWs and most places usually book up very quickly. Although dates won't be confirmed until end of October, we need to book the apartments straight away before they all go. If the dates turn out to be different from above we will transfer the bookings as best we can.
Self-catering apartments have been chosen because compared with a similarly priced guest house or hotel room, an apartment provides much more spacious private accommodation with the option of self catering. We use Discovery Accommodation because they have a large number of apartments available in one building (with more in close proximity) in the heart of Whitby, and because of the additional facilities they offer exclusively to their guests, including:
- Leisure facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool and sauna available to all guests for £3 a session.
- Breakfast and other meals available in the main office coffee lounge.
- Function room available.
- Many apartments have wheel-chair access for the disabled.
- Free WiFi
All the flats come with a fully equipped kitchen area, lounge/dining room, and bath/shower room. They all have Freeview TV, DVD (full DVD library in office) and music system.
The flats booked initially will all be in the same or next door building (this may not be possible for any flats added at a later date).
Length of Stay
We recommend 4 nights minimum from the Thursday to Sunday, leaving Monday which coincide with the 'official' dates of the Whitby Goth Weekend. All the prices we quote here assume these 4 nights. It is possible to stay more or less nights (minimum 2) but this might only be practical if everyone in an apartment does the same (please ask for quote).
All the following prices are per person for 4 nights: Thursday to Sunday (leaving Monday)
|4-bedroom apartment - main block|
|Single occupancy double room||£216|
|Sharing twin or double room||£156|
|2-bedroom apartment - main block|
|Single occupancy double or twin room (assuming 2 in other room)||£246|
|Sharing twin or double room||£169|
|1-bedroom apartment - next door|
|Sharing double room||£184|
All prices will include a first night (Thursday) Welcome Get-together with nibbles and wine included. At this meeting Martine will offer guidance and brief everyone about Whitby and the events of the weekend ahead.
Accommodation Availability: The apartments listed above have already been reserved for our group but there are also other 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom apartments with full facilities in nearby buildings and a few 1-bedroom apartments with just an en-suite bathroom (no lounge/kitchen). These will only be reserved when we have confirmed bookings for them. Please ask for quote if you want one of these and make your booking ASAP before these options go.
Coming Alone? Unfortunately none of the apartments have single rooms and for those who are willing to share with someone else there are very few twin rooms (which do tend to be smaller than the double rooms). We are therefore making some of the double rooms available for single occupancy but obviously at a higher cost.
You don't need to book a full apartment (or even a room) if you are willing to share it with others (in our group) as I will endeavour to make up the number. However there could be some delay before the apartment is actually booked if I have to wait for sufficient others to make up the number required for the apartment type.
Parking: Discovery Accommodation have a limited number of parking spaces at £8 per space per night. Book early if you want one. However there is also a Pay and Display car park nearby (£6 for 24 hours) or a permit for on-street parking is available for £8 for four days but it is difficult to find a space during the WGW and there are none close to the main apartment building.
To register your interest please use the link below. Martine will email back to let you know what accommodation is available and may offer various options according to any others who may be interested in sharing an apartment. If we cannot accommodate you in one of the apartments we have reserved in advance, you may have to wait until we get enough others to make up the number required to reserve an additional apartment. When we are in a position to book the apartment you will need to pay a non-refundable deposit of £100 per apartment or £50 for part occupation of an apartment. The balance should be paid by 1st March 2019 for the April event.
